February 2021: Choice Points
The habit of positive choices is completely liberating and makes an adventure of life. But do we notice our choice points, and how do we get past feeling too tired to choose?
Choice Adventure:
Slowing thoughts,
Seeing,
Thinking outcomes,
Choosing.
Watching change.
adventure
Choice is the adventure of life… but we groan… life can feel tiring enough. Yet there is no avoiding choice; however we think or act, we have chosen. It is not a question of whether we choose, but how. The adventure is not to run from choice but to anticipate: where might choices lead? Choosing is easier if we always choose compassion for self and others. The adventure is to watch how love unfolds.
take 5
Imagine a boy in a monastery, eager to learn. Yet every day he is required to chop wood and carry water. The abbot notices him looking sad.. if you were the abbot what would you say to the boy?
What in your life is ‘chopping wood and carrying water’?
…and an experiment!
Ask ‘where am I now’? This could be a particular habit or situation.
‘In what ways might this play out?’ Project a scenario where you feel and function well. Project other possible scenarios, where things don’t go so well.
What can you do to help make the best scenario a reality?
